Ride of Silence: KKK To Escort NAACP Marchers
One of the DriveLessDenver folks has written a good article for yourhub.com about Denver's Ride of Silence.
This is amusing (and sad):
Although both [of Denver's Rides of Silence] have taken place in Washington Park, where the audience is mostly walkers, joggers, rollerbladers and other non-driving park patrons, [Organizer] Cantar says they're revisiting the plan, to see if next year's ride can have a police escort through city streets where participants can be more visible to motorists. And with more promotion and word-of-mouth advertising next year, he would like the ride to grow to involve more and more people.
Why do they want a police escort next year? To stay safe? That would pretty much sum up Denver's approach to cyclists
I think a police escort is a ghastly awful idea. And it will never happen. And I am boggled that anyone would think otherwise.
Still, it would be delicious to see the police - drivers all - escort protesting cyclists. Imagine the KKK forced to escort civil rights marchers. Sweet!
