Out In The Rain

“You're one of those people who has enough sense to go out in the rain.”

That's what Gerty said yesterday when I headed out on a cross-town errand in a downpour.

I was flattered.

I like being out in the rain. The air, something I rarely notice, embraces me. My tires make hissing, splashing sounds as they pass through puddles and rivulets. Drivers are unnaturally friendly.

We're born wet. We swim. We take baths. When I'm buzzing around or wearing polypro, the only real danger is that people will think I've lost my mind. Other than that what's the problem? Wet clothes? They dry out. No big deal.

The rain is a gift. My life gets pretty staid and predictable. It's nice to have an unexpected “adventure”arrive without planning or cost.

About

Rocky Hillside

In the dark of the moon, in the flying snow, in the dead of winter,

war spreading, families dying, the world in danger,

I walk the rocky hillside, sowing clover.
