Dutch Bike Police

The BBC video of the mad driver trying to smash his car into the Dutch royal family shows the first police officers arriving nearly instantly - by bike.

ArtCrank In Denver

Magnify the image

ArtCrank - a collection of inexpensive, original bike posters is now showing on the walls of the hip little shops on Colfax between St. Paul and Steele.

The shops - The Shoppe (cereal, cupcakes), The Fabric Lab (cool clothes and very affordable t-shirts), Plastic Chapel (odd new knick knacks), and Neopolitan (a gallery, I think) - are fun. The people who run them, charming, interesting, and engaging.

The art? I would say heavy on the crank and lighter on the art. Still, since I'm a crank, I enjoyed it.

The show is a good reason to take a ride and spend a few hours hanging out. A new shop or business pops up every month on this section of Colfax.

(Four days ago, the restaurant formerly known as Cafe Star opened a bar just east of the corner of Steele and Colfax. Worth a stop. Ask for Chris. He'd be grateful if you give his new place a name.)

The 11th Annual Blessing of the Bikes

Magnify the image

The NYTimes has a video of Reverend Tom's lovely blessing:

More than one hundred cyclists gathered at New York City's Cathedral Church of St. John the Divine for the annual blessing of the bikes. A few cyclists confessed their bicycling sins as well.

Sounds Disturbingly Familiar . . . .

From the NYTImes:

“In releasing these memos, it is our intention to assure those who [tortured people] relying in good faith upon the legal advice from the Department of Justice that they will not be subject to prosecution,” Mr. Obama said in a statement issued by the White House.

I didn't really expect to hear the U.S. employing the Nuremberg Defense.

Defective

Image from Parker's.

No wonder the car industry is in trouble.

Nearly every car on the road seems to have a broken speedometer and turn signals that don't work.

Rocky Hillside

In the dark of the moon, in the flying snow, in the dead of winter,

war spreading, families dying, the world in danger,

I walk the rocky hillside, sowing clover.
