All Souls Unitarian in D.C. also has a bike blessing ceremony. Not to get too theological, but I believe bicycles don't need to be blessed because bicycles are innately holy.
I remain amazed at how simple ceremonies can touch me. Even when they are a bit goofy. Rev. Tom made me tear up.
Sappy, I know, yet I most often feel religious when I'm outdoors in the company of the kids.
My "saints" are old friends and a relative or two. Wonder what my old cycling coach would say about finding himself in my personal pantheon. Probably something more salty than saintly.
