Striving To Be Stupid (And Succeeding)

Has the Bennet campaign written a single message that wasn't addressed to someone with the IQ of a lobotomised parrot? I don't think so.

I may not be the brightest bulb in the house, but do I want a senator who's going to behave as if I'm a total moron?

Perhaps uncomfortable being called "elitists," Democrats have decided to behave as if they are morons. That would explain Obama's nonsensical justification for his new drilling program, and it's the most charitable explanation of the Bennet campaign.

Tired of the Environment? Let's Get RId of It.

Obama and Salazar open new areas to offshore drilling to get a minuscule amount of oil. As far as I can tell, this is Obama's explanation:

Ultimately, we need to move beyond the tired debates between right and left, between business leaders and environmentalists, between those who would claim drilling is a cure all and those who would claim it has no place. Because this issue is just too important to allow our progress to languish while we fight the same old battles over and over again.

Since we are tired of debating (or hearing the debate), let's sell out the environment. Makes sense to me. As much sense as saying "I'm tired of listening to the tired debates of the Republicans and the Democrats, so I'll just vote Republican."

Don't make a reasoned decision about which side might be right, just declare that we're all annoyed and side with the "big boys."

Stupid. Destructive. Disappointing.

Words Still Fail

Between robocalls from Bennet and unpacking Bennet fliers from our mailbox, I found this in an e-mail from Bennet:

But despite facing long odds, Michael exceeded all expectations last night at the caucuses. Thanks to the thousands of grassroots supporters who stood up for Michael and his fresh approach, our opponent barely reached 50% in the most favorable political environment possible, dealing a serious blow to his candidacy.

As I have noted before, in Bennet-World "grassroots" means "PAC-supported incumbent who has a ton of money and is supported by the Democratic establishment." Now I've learned that in Bennet-World when you lose by 5 percentage points to an underfunded grassroots candidate you actually win.

I like Michael but this is just bullshit. Bullshit. Bullshit.
